I Guess You Have to Start Somewhere

I thought of starting a blog over a decade ago. It was going to be called thegamelady.com, and be a sort of online encyclopedia of games for caregivers to play with kids. It was a dream born out of my love for kids, games, and bringing humans of all ages together through play (I am actually fortunate enough to get to do this in my job as a Marriage and Family Therapist).

It was a good idea. Maybe I’ll still do it, in some fashion.

But I love other things too. I love Jesus. I love the Bible. I love the Church. And because I have these loves, and because the world is what it is, I find myself with a lot of feelings…such as pain, loss, uncertainty, compassion, curiosity and hope. I suppose that’s something I could write about.

The other day I googled: how to start a blog. Turns out one of the things you need to do is decide what you want to write about. Shoot. It’s not that I have no idea. I just have too many ideas. It’s like looking in the dryer and watching various and sundry items tumble about, including some tennis shoes that are making an unseemly amount of noise.

But there’s the adage: “You have to start somewhere.” And I saw a bumper sticker once that said: “Not everyone who wanders is lost.” I want that bumper sticker.

So if you are interested in any of the things I have mentioned, consider yourself invited to this conversation I am starting. Another thing I love is collaboration. I hope that others will speak up and share as well. Typing that gives me some anxiety because… I have kids, and a job, and am usually behind on my domestic responsibilities, and I am deeply committed to not being on the internet everyday. So please just know that and be patient with me.

I think that’s all I have for now. Here’s to figuring things out along the way.
